Former Disney Channel star from Austin & Ally has become one of the biggest names for the streaming platform when it comes to romantic comedies after starring in The Royal Treatment and The Perfect Date, but now she’s entering a whole new world with Choose Love, a new interactive adventure from Netflix.

The story follows Cami, a girl with a seemly perfect life with a wonderful boyfriend and an amazing job. But when she crosses paths with a fortune-teller, everything changes. From that moment on, Cami will have plenty of options to keep her life in line or shake things up completely, with viewers being able to choose what she’ll do next.

Here’s the first trailer and official synopsis for the film:

“Laura Marano returns with a unique take on the rom-com in this interactive special. She plays Cami Conway, a recording engineer with a steady boyfriend heading towards an engagement until she comes face to face with tempting choices. In this choose-your-own romance adventure, the viewer will navigate through Cami’s romances and ultimately choose her love.”

Choose Love also stars Sctott Michel Foster from You, Avan Jogia from Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, and Jordi Webber from Power Rangers. The movie is directed by Crazy Ex-Girlfriend‘s Stuart McDonald from a script written by Josann McGibbon (Runaway Bride).

Netflix Wants Viewers to Feel Part of Their Stories

This isn’t the first time that Netflix has offered their subscribers the chance of being part of their series or movies. Back in 2018, the streaming platform made their first attempt to introduce interactive content with Black Mirror, which seemed to be the most accurate choice for the introduction of this concept into their catalog. Bandersnatch allowed the fans to choose what was going to happen next by selecting on screen the main character’s next action.

The biggest win for this type of story is that viewers want to try different options, which means they’ll spend a long time in front of the screen consuming the content in order to get different results. In 2019, Netflix released You vs Wild, a documentary-style show where the audience chooses what adventurer Bear Grylls will do while helping him to survive in the wilderness.

A year later the streaming platform offered another amazing interactive adventure with a special episode from The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, turning the acclaimed comedy series into a completely different thing thanks to the possibility of viewers to directly interact with the characters and decide what happens to them.

Right now there are a lot of interactive options to enjoy on Netflix including titles such as Barbie: Epic Road Trip, We Lost Our Human, Carmen Sandiego: To Steal or Not to Steal, Puss in Book: Trapped in an Epic Tale, Captain Underpants: Epic Choice-o-Rama among many others.
