While speaking to the outlet about working on the project, The Lighthouse star said, “It’s a different relationship than you normally have with scene partners. You’re very patient with everyone, and everyone’s patient with you.”

Dafoe continued, “They need to be confident in what they’re doing, because what we’re doing is quite risky. It’s not a normal film.”

While diving into the not-so-normal elements of the film, Youssef, discussed going to mortician school with Dafoe in order to learn the ins and outs of 19th century anatomy.

The Mr. Robot actor said, “It was like: ‘Mark’s going to accent class, Emma is going to dance class, and then me and Willem are going to hang with the mortician, and we’ll link back up at lunch.”

Youssef joked, “It felt like a college campus.”

The Mo star then revealed just how dedicated his co-star was to learning a new craft, saying, “Willem got really focused on it. I’d be joking around, stitching something up — I kind of had a knack for it because my hands are a little bit smaller, I was able to get in there — and Willem would be like, ‘What the f***?'”

Youssef added, “But once he got it, he really got it better than me.”

Empire’s exclusive image of Lanthimos’s upcoming fantasy film shows Dafoe portraying his character, Dr. Baxter while sitting in an oversize chair a kitchen setting. In the picture, the At Eternity’s Gate star sports a patchwork face that is reminiscent of Frankenstein’s Monster and his iconic monster. IVs leading to various partially fully containers are hooked up to the actor as he grips the arms of his chair.

Poor Things was initially set to arrive in theaters on September 8th, but it’s US release date has since been pushed to December 8th.
