Producer Bradley J. Fisher remarked onThe Last Voyage of the Demeter’s expansion of the vampire’s story saying, “This chapter of Bram Stoker’s Dracula hasn’t been told. What actually happened on the ship that transported Dracula from the port of Varna to England is by itself just fascinating.”

Øvredal also expressed his excitement for The Last Voyage of the Demeter saying, “I really love this alien style story set on the ocean in 1897 and with Dracula instead of the alien monster it was just, all the elements were really exciting.”

He later declared, “we get to experience this extreme emotion of fear, but safely.”

Hawkins, who plays Clemens in the film, similarly noted, “There’s something potent about that mythology. Everyone knows fear and I think Dracula represents that. You look at the images and it’s just magic man. It’s magic.”

“It’s monster time when the lights go out,” said Cunningham, who plays Captain Eliot in The Last Voyage of the Demeter. The actor later remarked that the film’s version of Dracula is “the perfect monster.”

Dastmalchian, who plays Wojchek in the upcoming horror movie, previously spoke with Collider about working on the film. While chatting with the outlet, the actor noted how much he enjoyed getting to work with Øvredal due to the director’s preference for taking “big swings” with his horror movies as well as his overall knowledge of Stoker’s iconic bloodsucker.

Dastmalchian said, “He took a huge swing with this film. I think it’s gonna scare the c*** out of people, but it’s also gonna be one of those movie experiences that transports you to this other place.”

The Last Voyage of the Demeter releases in theaters on August 11th.
