Martin-Greene shared message when the series was announced to end this upcoming season,

“I can hardly believe that this mind-blowing journey with ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ is ending. I’m astoundingly blessed by God to have played Captain Michael Burnham and to have taken part in a legacy alongside an extraordinary cast, phenomenal crew and remarkable writing team. To our most supportive partners at CBS Studios and Paramount+, who insisted on making television history, I’m deeply grateful. I’m also deeply grateful for the creative collaboration with our showrunners Michelle Paradise and Alex Kurtzman, as well as Olatunde Osunsanmi and the incomparable team of executive producers.

I will never forget how it felt to stand together as a show family, cradling the heirloom of ‘Trek’ with all those from the franchise at large and with the fans. The fans welcomed us into their hearts as we launched a new iteration of ‘Trek’ and an entire entertainment platform, and we’ll never forget it. 65 episodes later, here’s to the entire company of ‘Star Trek: Discovery,’ to the show and its fifth and final season, to its beloved fans and to all those who envision a better future. Let’s fly… “

In a nod to long-time fans and a way to generate further excitement, Paramount+ unveiled a special Star Trek: Discovery Final Season Look Ahead video, offering glimpses of throwbacks to classic Star Trek moments. It’s an assurance of sorts that the final installment will be a nostalgic ode to the legacy of the franchise.

The unveiling didn’t just stop at Moll and L’ak. The voice of Captain Rayner, a character brought to life by Callum Keith Rennie, makes its debut. While it’s still shrouded in mystery if Rayner will be a friend or foe to Captain Burnham, his inclusion promises more dynamics and layers to the unfolding narrative. Additionally, the USS Discovery’s bridge sees fresh faces accompanying stalwarts like Captain Saru (Doug Jones), Commander Kayla Detmer (Emily Coutts), and Dr. Kovich (David Cronenberg). One particular highlight is a visually arresting moment where Burnham takes an audacious ride on the exterior of Moll and L’ak’s starship during warp speed, showcasing the series’ penchant for spectacle.

The previous trailer tease for the upcoming season was presented at New York Comic-Con in 2022. There’s speculation brewing that Star Trek Day in September might be the occasion for Paramount+ to drop another trailer for this season. While the platform had grand promotional events lined up for the show, the unforeseen WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes played spoilsport, putting a temporary damper on the TV and movie industry. Given the strikes, there’s ambiguity about the exact release date in 2024. However, Paramount+ is keen to ensure that when it does premiere, it gets the massive promotional push it rightfully deserves.

Star Trek: Discovery‘s fifth season promises to be a grand send-off. Gearing up for its final voyage, Captain Michael Burnham is poised to once again venture into uncharted territories. Trekkies have a thrilling 2024 to look forward to, exclusively on Paramount+.
