At the end of season one, Nick came out as bisexual to his mother and confessed his love for Charlie, with the show ending with both characters enjoying their love while being away from everyone. But now that they’re together, Nick will have to face an even bigger challenge by accepting himself and come out to the rest of the world, which won’t be easy, as the full trailer released by Netflix teases:

The video also shows that the second season will focus on some other relationships besides Nick and Charlie’s. Tara and Darcy are dealing with some communication issues, while Elle is ready to confess her love for Tao, while he doesn’t seem so sure about as he’s afraid their feelings may ruin their friendship. But a trip to the city of love could fix it all. The group goes on a school trip to Paris, which could mean both good and bad changes for everyone.

Heartstopper is based on Alice Oseman’s graphic novel of the same name, which is soon coming to an end. Ealier this year, the author anticipated that the sixth installment from the series would be the last one, but fans are still waiting on book five, so there’s still a lot more of Heartstopper to enjoy since Netflix has already confirmed a third season too.

Netflix

The new episodes from Heartstopper will feature the returns of Joe Locke and Kit Connor as the lovely Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson. Joining them will be Olivia Colman, Yasmin Finney, William Gao, Sebastian Croft, Kizzy Edgell, Corinna Brown, Tobie Donovan, Jenny Wasler, Rhea Norwood and Fisayo Akinade. Bradley Riches, who had a small participation in season one, will have a much relevant role in the next installment. But there will also be some new faces.

Leila Khan, Nima Taleghani, Thibault de Montalembert, Bel Priestley and Ash Self are some of the new stars joining for season two, but the most important addition is probably Jack Barton, who will play Nick oldest brother David.

In the novels, David is one of the main detractors of Nick and Charlie’s relationship, since he doesn’t accept his brother’s sexuality. This character may represent one of the biggest challenges the main couple will have to face in order to enjoy their romance without suffering. Another enemy could be Sebastian Croft’s Ben Hope, who used to date Charlie before Nick came into the picture, and as it’s shown in the trailer, he’s not happy with the news of them being a thing.

Heartstopper season two premieres on Netflix on August 3.
